Jax Bar & Grill - Thursday, August 17, 2006
Robert Moore & The Wildcats

"Smoke & Satin"- Robert Moore & his Wildcats consisting of Mark DiFlorio on drums; Dan Schulte on bass; and Dan Gaynor on piano, entertained a small but enthusiastic crowd of jazz aficionados at Jax Bar & Grill on Thursday evening. Robert Moore (RoMo) sings, plays trumpet & harmonica and writes many of the songs he performs. His phrasing swings as he sings, he scats with the best and shares a smoky, satiny song style that is the jazz genre at its best. This transplanted Alabaman exudes southern soul in his singing, which is tinged with a bluesy tint.

Dan Gaynor exercises the black & whites with a deft touch that is inventive and energetic and provides great counterpoint to RoMo's instrumental stylings. The rhythm section is steady with a great bass line and excellent timing and dynamics on the skins.

The group performed a mixture of RoMo originals and old standards, which was top notch and well worth coming back to.

Jax is located at 826 S.W. 2nd, Portland, 97204. Music performed on Thursday evenings by the Wildcats from 8:30 PM till midnight. Five-dollar cover charge. Happy hour menu and adult beverages are available from 10 PM till closing.
