Friday night, August 25th the Bijou Café was transformed into a musical palace via the vocal magic of the queen of scat, Nancy King. A packed house delighted at her always superb song stylings, some solo and many shared with the local king of swing, Robert Moore. Jazz standards such as Johnny Mercer & Harold Arlen's Come Rain Or Come Shine, Mountain Greenery, It Never Entered my Mind, It Ain't No Use; Centerpiece; Groovin' Hot, I'm in the Mood for Love and the wry, Lambert, Hendricks & Ross tune Twisted got the audience toe tapping & hand clapping.

Steve Christofferson on piano has fit hand in glove with Nancy for so many years and his keys tonight, one more time, tapped out a message of jazz synchrony and fluidity of the highest order. Dan Schulte on bass, Alan Tarpinian on drums comprised a tight rhythm section, which gave this ensemble superb musical backbone. Cheryl Alex tooted her flute with the group during the last set and it is great to see her back in action.

Robert Moore should be experienced live by every jazz aficionado as soon as possible. His talent on vocals, trumpet and harp (monica) adds treasure and richness to the local jazz scene. Word is spreading quickly about this phenomenal talent and jazz buffs are urged to watch for and attend Moore's gigs around town while you can still get in. The audience continues to grow as word spreads that there is yet another jazz legend in the making right in our own backyard.

Robert Moore concerts at least once a month at The Bijou Café, appears Thursdays at JAX and Tuesdays at the Mississippi Pizza Jazz Jam. The Blue Monk and other jazz venues around town showcase Mr. Moore on occasion, so keep an eye out.
