For Portland Bassist
Jon Ralph Nyberg
without
the body
before our eye
our mind
has a hard time
believing
a
person is gone
when life
is celebrated
it
becomes expanded
extended
clarified
magnified
it
deepened in
color
it
deepens in
feeling
it
goes beyond
family - friends
and
ardent admirers
assemble
a
musical exchange
turns out to
be
uncomplicated
and yet
energetic
a
high level
of
instrumental proficiency
from
a floating piano
snapping cymbals
animal skins slapped
seeking
the
primordial attention
of the
begetters
a
feeling of freedom
extracted
from a bass
walking
voices becoming a part
of the
consciousness
and
wandering about in our
dreams
erasing borders
and
opening the mind.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there,
I did not die
